Pic Nic Sitges History
In late 1955 and early 1956, our father, Josep Maria Matas Barceló, reached an agreement to manage this establishment. He had fallen in love with its seafront location and the entrance from the promenade, which was reminiscent of a certain Ibizan atmosphere.
Without a doubt he was a great visionary. At that time, the movie “Picnic ” was showing in theaters, featuring a multitudinous meal on the splendorous grass that, at the same time, was also intimate for its leading man and lady: William Holden and the fair-haired Kim Novak, who had become the platonic love of every single man in the universe.
It was probably in their honor that the Valencian Horchata Shop was renamed with its present name “Pic Nic”.
