Escola Les Roquetes Sant Pere de Ribes

Escola Les Roquetes Sant Pere de Ribes is a school with a history.

Les Roquetes is a village that belongs to the municipality of Sant Pere de Ribes, despite the fact that it is geographically closer to Vilanova i la Geltrú, the capital of the Garraf region.

Where the houses of Les Roquetes are today, there used to be the farmland of La Vilanoveta or farmhouses such as Mas d’en Serra, Solicrup, Les Orenetes, etc. As in many other places in Catalonia, in the middle of the 20th century, farmers gradually stopped working the land to become workers in different industries and companies in the region, especially in Vilanova i la Geltrú. These commercial activities required a lot of manpower, that is, workers, and since there were not enough here, people began to arrive from other places in Spain and settled in these lands.

The growth of the population meant that shops and services were installed in the centre, and one of these services was the school. Our school “L’escola Les Roquetes”, is the first and the one with the most history out of the three that Les Roquetes currently has.

In the nineteen seventies, the people, parents, teachers, students and villagers in general had to fight bravely to get a building for the school, and in the end in 1976 they did achieve this, and we were able to leave the temporary garages and warehouses and open new classrooms.

In the 21st century, those of us who are part of Les Roquetes School, will continue to fight and work to continue offering the boys and girls of Les Roquetes a quality education in a family atmosphere, in the way that has always characterized us.
