Sitges is hosting the third edition of the Catalan Sea Kayak Cup, organized by the Catalan Canoeing Federation and the company Nootka Kayak & Sup Sitges. The competition is scheduled for this Saturday morning, starting at Cellerot beach (see picture), at 10am for the short distance and at 12pm for the long distance.
The route is a 7.5 km circuit along the coast of Sitges, but there are two options and on Saturday itself it will be decided which of the two runs will be used, depending on the prevailing wind at the time of the start of the test. The route that takes into account the easterly wind leaves Cellerot beach, goes to Sant Sebastià beach, then goes 1.35 km out to sea and returns to Cellerot beach. If the garbí is determined to be the main wind of the day, the kayaks will also leave Cellerot beach but will follow the coast to the south, until they are opposite Cala Pati Blau. There they turn and go 1km out to sea, from where they return to the start.
The two routes, marked with buoys, are 7.5km long. Therefore, those who participate in the short distance must complete the course once, while those who are competing in the long distance will have to complete the course twice. In the short distance there will be male and female classification by open category, under 18 and under 16, while in the long distance category there will also be male and female classification, but only in open and under 18.
