Story details
Sitges is preparing to finally host the “Viu les platges amb salut” party on Monday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at La Fragata beach. The activity had to be canceled on the 12th due to the episode of heavy rain that affected all of Catalonia. The party aims to promote health and safety on the beaches and encourage healthy habits among the population. It is organised by the Sitges City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council, with the collaboration of the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
The festival will include fun and educational activities for all ages, such as games, workshops, storytelling and musical activities. A stage will be set up on the promenade, from where the Robert Gobern Theatre Company will liven up the event, although some of the actors will already be on the sand from 5 pm, livening up the afternoon and inviting bathers to participate in the activities that will begin at 6 pm. These activities will be carried out simultaneously on 4 shaded platforms that will welcome participants in the different fun activities: a hidden clues game with a very summery prize; a roulette that will explain the myths that are hidden behind tobacco; a cut-out workshop to learn how to protect yourself from the sun; a dice game to learn how to resolve emergency situations such as a jellyfish sting or a hedgehog puncture; and a storytelling session to learn about the fantastic things that can happen on the beach. For those who don’t want to get off their comfortable position lying on the beach, there will also be a song and dance activity on the sand itself. With fun choreography, they will be able to discover how to protect themselves on the beach.
The councilor for Climate Action, Energy Transition and Natural Spaces, Carme Gasulla, explains that “the initiative aims to remind us that beaches are healthy and safe spaces. The party combines fun and learning, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of enjoying the beach responsibly and healthily.”
The activity is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council’s beach campaign, which this year reinforces the promotion of health and prevention, values that Sitges City Council also promotes with beaches accessible to everyone, with safe and with quality waters.
