Story details
Rail traffic between Sitges and Gavà will be interrupted from 22 to 28 September due to the improvement works that Adif is carrying out at Castelldefels station. To minimise the impact on mobility, Renfe, in coordination with the Generalitat de Catalunya, has launched an alternative road transport plan that will guarantee the connection between the affected stations during this period.
To guarantee the mobility of passengers on the R2 Sud line and the Regionals on the southern corridor, 55 buses will be enabled, offering 41,000 daily seats. Direct buses will run between Sitges and Gavà from 4:50 a.m., every 15 minutes, coordinated with the arrival of trains. In addition, a minibus service will be enabled with intermediate stops in Garraf and Platja de Castelldefels, every 30 minutes. From Gavà to Barcelona, the rail service will operate normally, as well as between Sitges and Sant Vicenç de Calders. The bus stop in Sitges will be located on Passeig de Vilafranca where it intersects with Avinguda de les Flors. The bus stop in Gavà will be located on Carrer de Barcelona, just past the tunnel next to the train station that connects to the industrial area. All stops will be properly signposted. The first bus to leave from Gavà will do so at 5 am, while the last one will do so depending on the last train.
On the other hand, the last two trains on the R2 Sud line destined for Vilanova i la Geltrú will end their journey in Gavà, from where passengers will have a bus that will take them to Vilanova with stops at all intermediate stations.
Regarding the Southern Regional services, rail traffic will be maintained between Barcelona-Estació de França and Gavà, as well as between Sitges and Sant Vicenç de Calders. For longer journeys, a direct bus service has been enabled between Barcelona (University Area/Palau Reial) and Cunit, with a frequency of 30 minutes.
The expected journey times between Sitges and Gavà by road will be around 25 minutes, between Sitges and Castelldefels 20 minutes, and between Sitges and Barcelona-Estació de França, around 55 minutes. Buses leaving Barcelona will leave from Zona Universitària, a one-minute walk from the metro stop on line 3, and will arrive at Palau Reial, also one minute from this line.
Local transport tickets will be valid to access the alternative road service, you just need to carry them with you.
At the stations and bus stops there will be Renfe staff, security agents and support teams hired by the company to answer passengers’ requests for information and show them the route to follow between the station and the bus stops.
During the morning of Sunday, September 28, trains will run in tests without passengers and it is expected that rail service will recover from 2 p.m., once the works have been completed.
