Story details
A tour of 70 paintings, an installation and two sculptures make up the first exhibition of the artist, Manuel Corrales, which under the name of ‘Miradxs, Colors i trances’ can be seen in Sitges from 8 June. The exhibition can be seen at Miramar – Cultural Center as part of the annual cultural programme of La Pregonera 2024.
Manuel Corrales, originally from Extremadura and living in Sitges for more than 30 years, defines himself as an “artivist”, a denomination that “merges the concepts of artist and activist”.
Through this immersive exhibition, he wants to showcase human rights from Sitges and project this to the whole world. To do so, he takes the viewer on a journey through a body of work starring characters who reflect the diversity, the strength and at the same time the vulnerability, the spirituality and the beauty of humanity. Manuel Corrales states that “I am a dissident and divergent activist who showcases human rights”. I want to make visible the victory of beauty over trauma, from the LGTBIQ+ experience. And in this vein he proposes “a path of redemption and of reunion with the human essence, peace and harmony”.
The works, created between 2019 and 2024, are characterized by conveying emotions through intense colours.
Throughout his career, Manuel Corrales has held individual and group exhibitions both in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes. In addition, he has also participated in exhibitions with other artists in Cáceres, his native town. The exhibition ‘Miradxs, Colors i trances’ can be visited until July 28 on the first floor of the Miramar-Centre Cultural.
