Profile
Arrel Waldorf Garraf
Arrel Waldorf Garraf offers a conscious and respectful education in the middle of nature 5 minutes from Sant Pere de Ribes.
We have places available for girls and boys from 1 to 6 years old
Arrel was born in 2014, promoted by an association of parents. During this time, we have welcomed more than 60 boys and girls between 1 and 6 years old, and up to 10 nationalities.
The natural environment and our pedagogical perspective are the keys to the success of the project and make it a unique option in the region, attracting the interest of families from here and abroad year after year
Arrel is currently located in the municipality of Sant Pere de Ribes, in a private space in the Bora Sitges urbanization.
Arrel is a living organism that wants to live healthily and whose mission is:
-to accompany children in their early years, involving them with a
-loving, respectful pedagogy that promotes the freedom of the individual: Waldorf Pedagogy.
Arrel is supported by mothers, fathers and educators
Arrel Waldorf Garraf History
The Arrel project was born as a group of fathers and mothers who in 2014 decided to join together as an association under a common objective: to create a space where the natural development process of boys and girls is respected, in such a way that they can build solid foundations in their relationships with themselves and with the world.
The association is called the Garraf Waldorf Initiative Association and is registered in the registry of Associations of the Generalitat of Catalonia, number 54651, Section 1a. The association is non-profit and its main activity is the creation of a play group for children between 1 and a half and 6 years old in which the principles of Waldorf Pedagogy are followed.
In the association we work together with families and educators to ensure the sustainability and growth of the project. For this reason, dissemination activities open to the community are organized, such as fairs, talks, courses and workshops that are related to topics related to Waldorf pedagogy. There are also frequent calls from the commissions and the entire community with the aim of having an organizational rhythm, discussing relevant topics of the moment and taking advantage of the meeting to delve deeper into the project.
Close collaboration between families and educators is essential in Waldorf initiatives. Education needs the support, active participation and interest of parents, benefiting boys and girls when this collaboration is mutually supportive. Families are involved on many levels. Some can become members of the Board and others are part of the working committees.
Rhythm and repetition
The care of the boys and girls takes place as if in a big family; where the planning of activities is carried out through carefully structured daily, weekly and monthly rhythms, allowing the child to gain confidence in the world and with the others. These rhythms are repeated, which generates a lot of confidence in oneself and one’s environment; facilitates learning through doing; contributes to physical well-being; and allows the establishment of positive habits. The rhythms, just as they are repeated daily and weekly, are also lived year after year, and this is achieved through the cycles of nature, teaching children and living with them, the cycle of life itself.
Free play
Free play is the main activity through which the infant learns and overcomes evolutionary challenges: he socializes, acquires knowledge, connects and discovers himself, others and his environment without being pushed towards intellectualization too early.
Very special care is taken concerning the environment and everything that surrounds the infant, providing him at all times with a wealth of sensory impressions that allow him an authentic relationship with his environment, giving him opportunities to interact with the nature that surrounds him, through toys made of natural materials, the use of watercolours and waxes made with natural dyes, the use of beeswax for modeling, and others items.
