Profile
Richmond International School
At Richmond International School, there is a genuine feeling of warmth, camaraderie and care that has been built through a shared vision. This vision of the school is gaining strength thanks to teamwork, collaboration and respect for the role that each person plays in the development of their functions within the school community.
Our greatest goal is to prepare our students to contribute meaningfully to society as leaders in an increasingly complex world.
Richmond International School History
Richmond International School opened its doors in September 2013. The school currently has 163 students from Nursery to Year 13. It was initially authorized for students from Early Years (aged 3+) to Year 11 (aged 16+). in April 2017. Following this, the school has been able to provisionally develop and expand its facilities to include Years 12 and 13 studying the A Level programme.
School Community
The students, their families and the Richmond teaching and management team form a very close-knit community.
We all know that to achieve the best for the students, it is essential that we all work together and are coordinated. Therefore, a cordial, friendly relationship of mutual interest and concern between Richmond School and the family is a characteristic of the day-to-day life of our school.
Both the teaching staff and members of the school management regularly maintain contact with parents. Parents are informed at all times of their children’s progress and are encouraged to also be part of their academic education, motivating them at home. Throughout the academic year, many social events are organized where parents are not only welcome, but where their presence is highly valued. At Richmond School, we always encourage families to participate in field trips, cultural visits, and other types of events that help strengthen the sense of community.
Nationalities
Many nationalities are represented at the school, mainly of European origin. Within this zone, a large number of countries are represented such as Great Britain, France, Spain, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine and the Netherlands (among others). We also have students from much further afield such as China, the United States and South America, to name a few. Therefore, it is crucial that the school has – and maintains – a global attitude that respects and represents at all times the people who make up the Richmond “family.”
Environment and facilities
The Richmond school occupies a privileged place in the area due to its excellent communications with Sitges, Sant Pere de Ribes and Vilanova. The school has modern facilities that cover the needs of each educational stage so that children can develop their daily lives in a first-class environment.
The school environment itself is designed to allow for the collective spirit shared by students and the Richmond team, with bright, open classrooms and communal areas that are enjoyed by all (such as our library area, cinema room, cafeteria and rest of common areas). The computer rooms, the different laboratories and drawing and music classrooms are equipped with the latest technology and with all the material required for different ages. We focus on the practical part so that students have a greater approximation to reality.
For us it is very important that students can experience and discover the wonders of science for themselves.
Official Status
Our school is authorized by the Ministry of Education and Culture to offer British education to students of all nationalities. On the one hand, students who wish to do so will be able to obtain homologation in their secondary and baccalaureate degrees to access Spanish universities. On the other hand, as happens on most occasions, our students choose to study at universities in other parts of the world.
Our school is a member of NABSS (the National Association of British Schools in Spain). Periodically, the relevant official bodies carry out inspections to ensure that the school maintains educational excellence in both the Spanish and British systems. The school maintains British educational values on a day-to-day basis. The teachers who teach classes in Richmond are all highly qualified teachers with many years of experience teaching their respective subjects. Richmond’s leadership team carefully selects each teacher based not only on their impeccable academic record, but also on their personal skills with children in the classroom and their personal values that contribute to enriching the entire school community.
Mastery of English
The majority of our students are British or Spanish, but we are also lucky to have representation from many other nationalities.
Despite these myriad nationalities, the school’s primary language is English. It is in this language that most classes are taught and it is also the language of interaction between students and teachers. For this reason, with the exception of Nursery students, it is essential that all students applying for admission to Richmond have mastery of the English language. In addition, they must do so at a level appropriate to their age, both orally and in writing.
All students will have a prior interview that may or may not be accompanied by a language evaluation. It will be possible to skip this evaluation if students can present certificates of accreditation of language knowledge issued by official organizations or by other international schools.
