The work to make the field hockey field a reality are progressing according to schedule. Since last week, the machines have been working in the space in La Plana where this new sports facility will be located, which is expected to be operational sometime between September and October.

Currently, the machines are preparing the ground so that a gravel pitch approved by the Federation can be installed there, which will allow the Sitges Hockey Club to play its games at a home venue in Sitges from September. The gravel is a temporary solution, though, to ensure the September start date; the definitive solution will involve artificial turf suitable for field hockey.

The Councilor for Sports at Sitges City Council, Jaume Monasterio Miró, confirmed that “as soon as the artificial turf arrives, we will move from gravel to the grass” and added that “once the club has solved the issue of a home venue in Sitges, we will also look at how to equip the place with changing rooms”.

The space where the field hockey field is being created is a municipal plot on Carrer del Mestre Manuel Torrents, where there is still also room to enable a free car park to encourage lower car traffic in Sitges. This is the same road that, it is planned, will host the future new sports hall in Sitges.
