Story details
The managements of Sitges schools, the general management of public centres and the Territorial management of the Department of Education of the Generalitat, the Mayor of Sitges, the Councilor for Education of the City Council and the spokespersons of the municipal groups, all met this Tuesday at the Town Hall to address the situation in relation to increasing enrollment in Sitges schools and school capacity.
All parties have agreed on the need to create a new primary school at Miquel Utrillo school, and the Department of Education has undertaken to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in a comprehensive renovation of the existing school. The Councilor for Education at Sitges City Council, Albert Oliver-Rodés, explained that “this agreement contemplates, first of all, the need to incorporate a new primary centre at Miquel Utrillo School. To build this capacity, it is also planned to carry out a general renovation at the school, and while the adaptation and expansion of the centre is being carried out, portacabins will be temporarily installed adjacent to the school itself. This agreement, which will materialize in writing shortly, also includes the need for the Department to ensure the installation of these first portacabins for the 2025/2026 school year”.
Looking ahead to the next school year 2024/2025, the goal is to “continue to work together between all the parties involved” so that the next year starts properly.
In relation to the improvements to the educational centers, councilor Albert Oliver-Rodés announced that the City Council and Generalitat will allocate a total of €670,000, of which €350,000 will come from the Education Service’s improvement program and will be used to repair the facade of the Miquel Utrillo school; 200,000 for a new boiler at the Esteve Barrachina School, and 120,000 for other maintenance actions.
