In order to carry out improvements in municipal schools and kindergartens, the Plenary has given the green light to an item of 100,000 euros that will allow to resolve problems at Esteve Barrachina and Miquel Utrillo schools. It ill also fix the public address system at Barrachina school, fix the floor of the El Cercolet kindergarten and install 3 awnings to shade the kindergarten classrooms of the Maria Ossó educational centre. At the same time, 28,500 euros has been approved for the new ‘Council for Children’. The aim of this is to work for children and teenagers and offer activities such as  Children’s Festival, various workshops and activities, within the framework of popular festivals.

The municipal body has also approved a credit of 75,000 euros to install license plate readers in the municipality following the instructions of the Local Police. The purpose is to improve public safety and facilitate the work of the police to be more efficient in monitoring and controlling the mobility of vehicles and people. These readers will also act as a deterrent against possible criminal and uncivil acts.

The remodeling and environmental treatment works in the Port Ginesta promenade area in Les Botigues de Sitges will also be carried out, at a cost of 230,000 euros. The rest of the improvements to the promenade will be carried out by the Ministry and is expected to start in September.

In the Finance section, the update of the annex of the Strategic Grants Plan 2024-2026 has been approved. The Plan aims at greater forecasting and control of the expenditure allocated to the granting of subsidies.

In relation to housing, a modification of the basis of the call for the granting of fair rent grants has been approved. As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, the City Council adopted direct measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic for people who had serious difficulties in paying their rent. Now, with the situation normalized, it is proposed to return to the initial objectives to:

• extend the right to the benefit to a member’s cohabitation dependants
• readjust the percentages used to establish fair rent with respect to the income of the cohabitating dependants of people with various disabilities

This May’s meeting was the last for Tourism and Civil Rights councilor Brandon Jones, who is leaving the position for personal reasons. The councilor said goodbye to the Plenary, thanking everyone for the support received since he assumed the position. All the political groups wanted to thank him for his work and dedication to the town, and highlighted his respectful and conciliatory nature. The person who will replace him will be Xavier Ripoll.

Motions of municipal political parties

In the motions section, the municipal political group of VOX has proposed the adoption of measures in the field of mental health of young people in order to prevent suicide, addressing the problem from the authorities closest to citizens and with a collaboration between the City Council and the Generalitat. The proposal was rejected with 17 votes against (ERC, PSC – El Margaló, Junts per Sitges, SGI, Verds en Comú Podem Sitges and Guanyem Sitges PP) and 3 votes in favor (PP, Fets per Sitges and Vox).

Guanyem Sitges has requested a bus stop on the E16 Sitges-Barcelona line in the area of ​​the Hospital, Les Cases Noves and Els Molins neighborhoods, to serve the citizens of these areas, who currently have to walk a quarter of an hour or more to reach the nearest stop on this line. The proposal has been approved with 18 votes in favor (ERC, PSC – El Margaló, Junts per Sitges, SGI, Verds en Comú Podem Sitges, Guanyem Sitges PP and Fets per Sitges) and two abstentions (PP and Vox).

The PSC-EM has presented a proposal for an agreement to request immediate measures to improve the bus service, both an increase in the number of buses and in the frequency of the service, with special attention to the E16 line and the route that connects Sitges with Barcelona Airport. The proposal was approved unanimously.
