The mayor highlighted that “there is a significant reduction in the rates of serious crimes in the municipality, the result of the increase in police activity and the fruit of collaboration and coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra” and reiterated that “Sitges is a safe municipality, as confirmed by the interannual reports”.
The balance also highlights the decrease in crimes against people by 8.5%, and crimes against public order by 22.9%. On the other hand, administrative infractions increased by 14.8%, the result of more police activity, and arrests decreased by 9%. The Councilor for Government, David Martínez, explained that “statistics tell us that serious crime is reducing every year. The perception of security held by visitors, according to surveys carried out, is 8.5, which is a high perception of security that highlights the work being done by the Local Police”.
The inspector of the Local Police, Jordi Altarriba, highlighted that “the increase in police activity and the promotion of preventative and proactive work result in the reduction of criminal activities, while at the same time guaranteeing citizen safety, coexistence and the quality of life of citizens.”
For his part, the chief inspector of the ABP Garraf, Toni Santervas, emphasized that “if we look at the last 6 years we are better than in 2019, we have 1.12% fewer criminal acts, and this means an annual reduction of between 45-50 acts” and added that “the data is practically unbeatable this year”.
Regarding road safety, the accident rate has been reduced by 23.30%, as have minor injuries (-29.5%). Hit-and-runs have fallen by 35.7%. Crimes against traffic safety have also decreased (-12.10%). The reduction in accident rates is the result of the work of implementing the Sitges Local Road Safety Plan and prevention campaigns.
The increase in preventative, proactive and mediation work in community relations has also been fundamental in the area of coexistence and civic responsibility, where the results remain stable, in this case with a 3.7% reduction in incidents and complaints.
Extraordinary events such as the Christmas, Sant Joan or Festa Major celebrations have had a very positive safety assessment, the result of good work, both in terms of collaboration and coordination between the Local Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra.
